A Chilly Day November 5th

MUSIC TIME:
Music today started with a follow the leader style march around the music room listening to Jason play a drum to the beat of the song that we marched with our feet. We then walked around in a circle feeling the beat of the song while connecting with one another by matching our hands, fingers, and elbows together as we moved. This combination of listening, marching to the beat, and movement was tricky but we met the challenge. Then we were introduced to a new instrument, the rhythm sticks. We first explored the different sounds we could make tapping or sliding the sticks together. Then we learned a short song and through tapping, sliding, and patting we thought about how the song is structured and how parts of pieces of music can be similar like how many beats are in one line of a song. By breaking down the sections of the piece and expressing them through movement and rhythms we began learning about musical structures such as measures and time signatures in the context of the tempo of our rhythm sticks and movements all while having a wonderful time trying out these new instruments.

PASTA PLAY:
During Choice Time, our senses were stimulated as we manipulated pasta with our fingers and hands. The Cardinals began to explore states of matter as parts of the pasta were frozen from being stored in the refrigerator over the weekend. Their faces lit up with curiosity and surprise as they touched and squeezed the slippery noodles. They also made comparisons to the harder noodles and how cold they were and how they couldn't be moved as easily. After playdough tools were introduced, the Cardinals began applying pressure and using other techniques to try to separate the noodles and help them to come apart!.
OUTDOOR PLAY:
Another inviting place outside was the big body  of area that was covered in hay! The Cardinals explored with this straw like material as they rolled in, scooped, piled and collected hay. They created piles and covered each other for games of hide and seek and cover and uncover!

 TYSON HOUSE:
After playing in our outdoor playground for a while, the Cardinals took a walk to Tyson House where we met some of the grown ups who work there and learned a little bit about  what their jobs are. We even met our U.S mail man who was delivering the mail to Tyson house when we walked inside! He showed us his special uniform and we asked him questions about his job and promised to go home and talk to our own families about receiving mail at our own homes!
