The snowflakes brought total excitement and joy to our classroom this
morning! Our walls of windows are absolutely perfect spots to enjoy the
beauty and surprises of nature!
We joined together on the rug for a time of shared silence this morning. Lighting a candle and taking slow, deep breathes helps us to settle ourselves and we have noticed that the children are becoming much more comfortable with this routine. This simple practice embodies the Quaker spirit that our AFS community is built upon.Interest in books continued throughout our morning Choice Time today as we observed several children requesting to have books read aloud to them during this open time.
The children all worked in their journals today and the ease of the routine is clearly observed in how fluid the activity has been going each day. Children are drawing, dictating and sharing their work in a very natural manner. They are more detailed in both their drawings and story dictations and have become much more patient in waiting for an adult to write their words.
We also worked with small groups of children exploring math activities. We introduced a large floor number puzzle, math matching puzzles and a Dr. Seuss Go Fish math card game. Through these activities the children had the opportunity to practice number recognition skills and one -to-one correspondence.
We finished our morning with reading one of the beautiful Honor books that was donated to our classroom. We are extremely grateful and appreciate all the support we have at AFS.
