This morning, in our Morning Meeting, we decided to continue our artistic exploration by reading a book about art. The story introduced a new artist, within an art history context, to our Cardinals. The artist we talked about was Pablo Picasso. Tying together our art class topic yesterday, Mr. Imagination, with Picasso's love of making sculptures out of recycled materials, we looked at several of his pieces and talked about all the different materials he used in his sculptures which we had named in our list of what we thought sculptures could be made of. Using Picasso's story and work as a starting point, we also began a discussion about seeing and identifying shapes in art as well as in the world around us.
We thought this would be a perfect time to support our math curriculum by breaking up into small groups and work with shape recognition skills by playing Shape Bingo, and an Art History version of a memory that supports visual discrimination activity.
We have had a wonderful week that was filled with wonder , joy and laughter! Enjoy Friday photos that we hope recaptures our special time together at AFS!
