Fun Friday

February 8, 2013

The Cardinals had a busy day today! We started off in the classroom with a productive choice time complete with math games, drawing in the studio, and building with the magnet tiles until it was time for a special adventure to see the big kids in the middle school!

We were invited to Violet's mom's middle school science class this morning for a special activity. The 6th grade students invited us to participate in a science lab where our children would help make Flubber. Violet was so excited to visit with her mom  and all of the children felt so grown walking to the Middle School and joining in such a special activity. Our 6th grade middle school friends met us at the door and the Cardinals all found spots in big kid seats at the big kid lab tables to work in pairs of four! They asked each Cardinal what color they wanted to use  for their Flubber and if they wanted to add glitter to their project. Then, with the instruction and guidance  of our new middle school friends, the Cardinals mixed, and stirred, and watched as colorful, glittery Flubber was created! It was amazing watching this scientific process unfold, and the Cardinal class had a wonderful time talking to, and learning from the older students. A favorite part of this adventure was definitely the squishing and stretching of the end product!  This cross divisional activity reflects the amazing possibilites that our students are continuously exposed to in our educational community. The 6th grade students prepared on many levels for this visit and the learning that took place was shared by all students. We are planning on a visit next month and we are very thrilled to begin this collaborative expereince with the 6th grade that we plan on developing for the remaining months of the school year.

Art with Sam this morning was the second half of our Mr. Imagination project we had started earlier this month. We came into her art studio and saw the dried modeling clay on our paint brushes and learned that this second half of the project was to paint and decorate our brush faces! With water colors we added bright colors to liven up our clay faces, and then glued ribbons, buttons, beads, and jewel embellishments onto our projects. Our finished pieces were beautiful, colorful sculptures that we are excited to have displayed in the school soon!

We had a wonderful day filled with so many varied experiences. Our Cardinals love dancing!
