Fun in February

A Day of Many Activities...

Dance Party -The children arrived this morning dancing! A very favorite CD was playing and spontaneously the children all joined on the rug and started to dance! Kate and Stella quickly ran to the dress up clothing and returned to the rug in fancy dancing clothing! What a joyful way to begin our day...

Dancing was a wonderful opportunity for the children to connect with each other
while engaging in an open-ended large motor activity. The music clearly brought out a sense of joy and the Cardinals showed an appreciation for different types of music and the instruments, voices and sounds heard.

At Morning Meeting Donny and Xander helped display the many new objects we gathered from Sam's art room this morning to add to our collection of materials for sculptures.  We do not have many materials that would allow us to build upward and would love to add small objects you may have to our collection.  Small boxes that can be stacked are always a great addition as well as any other small objects such as bottle caps, corks etc.

The children loved listening to the story The Greedy Triangle  - This book provided a wonderful support to our exploration of sculptures as well as our math curriculum. Looking at geometry is a natural extension in our study of sculptures and art. So many of the sculptures the children are creating take on new shapes right beneath their eyes as they are working. We will be going on several shape walks on campus with the intention of looking for a particular shape in the art that we pass as well a the natural architect of the school.  Highlight shape conversations with your child as you are driving to and from school and enjoy together the awareness of shapes in the world around us!   This delightful book which is part of a math series  introduces children to geometrical concepts and shapes in a whimsical fun way!

Our days are full and so much fun!!
