A Busy Day...

Christina introduced the children to an activity at Morning Meeting  where they were engaged in music literacy. Christina used a bee puppet as a prop, five colorful flowers and a scale on our felt board. She introduced the concept of a musical note and how its position can change depending on the sound that it makes. We sang the song "You Are My Sunshine" as Christina showed the bee flying to the different notes we were singing.

Everyday the children are discovering new challenges in the outdoor classroom.  Today several children were drawn to the tree stumps where wooden slats had been added and the children were immediately interested in walking and balancing from log to log.  It is fascinating to observe our children as they discover new ways to play and explore in our new space.  Children both love and need to feel challenged and we have noticed our outdoor learning spaces facilitate joyful learning and growth.  The children have especially enjoyed the relaxed and collaborative feelings that accompany playing with friends from all of our Early Childhood classes.

The weather was so beautiful inviting us to go for a walk on our campus! After playing outdoors, we looked for a special spot to relax and listen to a story together.  On our walk we bumped into Chris, the director of our schools' food service.  Chris was picking cherry tomatoes, large tomatoes , peppers and basil from our school vegetable garden right outside the cafeteria! Chris invited the children to help pick the cherry tomatoes and to taste them  as well! We love our walking adventures  and especially love the many surprises that we happen upon...

After searching, we found a beautiful  shaded spot under a Sycamore tree and read the story The Curious Garden by Peter Brown which was a perfect closing to a very special morning!  Looking forward to seeing everyone at Back To School Night tomorrow night.
