Our Friday was filled with new experiences and introductions to new concepts which started at Music with Jason. We joined together for our "Boom-A-Ka-Lele" and then greeted each other with our "Say Hello" song.

We even challenged ourselves to click our tongues and jump to the beat of this song.

Jason then introduced us to a soft soothing song, "Catch a Falling Star". The children used their hands on their knees with "spider fingers" following the melody of the song. The children began to recite the lyrics after listening to Jason play it through. The children seemed to connect with the lyrics as they sang in soft voices:

Catch a falling star and put it in your pocket,
Never let it fade away!
Catch a falling star and put it in your pocket,
Save it for a rainy day!
Next, Jason introduced many new instruments that provided the children with an invitation to explore music and sound. Each child had the opportunity to figure out how to play their instrument.

A few instruments allowed for more than one child to play at a time and this provided the children practice with collaboration and cooperation.

As we became more familiar with the instruments and the tune, we joined Jason and our friends in playing the instruments while singing, "Catch a Falling Star".

The music room filled with the sounds of percussion, bells, and chimes as the children created harmonies through this interactive music experience.

Then, Jason invited the children to decide whether we should play all the instruments together or just a few at a time! This led to the creation of a musical pattern with different groups of instruments playing during segments of the song. Next, we transitioned to a kinesthestic song that combined movements with lyrics of a song about the moon and night. This provided a connection to shapes too!

After Music with Jason, the Cardinals flew to one of the Kindergarten rooms where we borrowed their space to watch a little bit of a DVD Paula had brought with her, "Duckumentary", about the lives of Ducks.

We shared this experience with our neighbors in the Catbird classroom and all the children loved watching ducklings as they emerged from their eggs and traveled from their nest all the way to the water.

The children enjoyed making connections between how the ducks in the video acted, and how the swans in our nap time chapter book, The Trumpeter and the Swan, acted such as how the ducks used a special call to recognize one another.

When we had seen enough of the ducklings' experiences for one day, we ended our short quiet time with one more short fun video to get our bodies moving again. The video played a fun song and had everyone jumping and laughing and ready to head outside for some fresh air.

Outside, the Cardinals explored some of the big kids' playground next door and did a great job navigating some of the bigger climbers with care.

We even ran into a police man who was taking a tour of our campus. Officer Mike answered a few questions some of the Cardinals had about his job.

Soon our children were again joined by the Catbird classroom, and the two classes enjoyed this continued opportunity to interact with friends we don't see all the time.
